IEC61010-1 Clause 8.2.2 Figure 10 Steel Sphere Drop Impact Testing Machine for Medical Electrical Equipment

    1. Introduction

The steel sphere drop impact test equipment is designed and manufactured according to the requirements of IEC61010-1 clause 8.2 and Figure 10, IEC60601-1 clause 15.3.3, IEC60950-1 clause 4.4.5 and Figure 4A, IEC60598-1 clause 4.13.4, IEC62368-1 Appendix clause T.6 and Figure T.1. Different steel balls can be configured according to different standard requirements. The equipment can provide both pendulum sphere impact and vertical drop sphere impact. This tester uses the principle of electromagnet attraction to attract various steel balls, and releases or attracts the test steel balls through the magnetic release or attraction generated by the on and off power of the electromagnet to achieve drop ball impact. The pendulum ball is raised by a steel rope, and the impact energy generated by the height difference is quantified to provide the pendulum ball impact energy required for the test. The default configuration of the drop ball impact tester is Φ50mm steel ball, and the Φ50.8mm steel ball required by the UL standard is optional. Because stainless steel balls are non-magnetic, the configured steel balls are bearing steel balls. Please pay attention to grease them for maintenance to avoid rust.

    2. Standard

IEC61010-1 Medical electrical equipment - Part 1: General requirements for basic safety and essential performance clause 8.2. and figure 10

IEC60601-1:2020 Medical electrical equipment - Part 1: General requirements for basic safety and essential performance clause 15.3.3

IEC60950-1Information technology equipment – Safety –Part 1: General requirements clause 4.4.5 and figure 4A

IEC62368-1 Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment –Part 1: Safety requirements Annex T.6and Figure T.1

IEC60598-1 Luminaires – Part 1: General requirements and tests Clause 4.13.4

    3. Application

The steel ball drop test device is mainly used to simulate the free-fall impact of objects at a certain height, so as to evaluate the performance of related materials, products or structures. Its specific uses are as follows:

    3.1 Material Performance Testing

    - Evaluate Material Toughness: By allowing the steel ball to drop onto the surface of the tested material from different heights, observe the deformation, cracking, and other conditions of the material under impact, and thus judge the toughness of the material. For example, in the research and development of metal materials, the impact resistance of metals with different compositions or heat treatment processes can be compared, providing a basis for the optimization of materials.

    - Study Material Fatigue Characteristics: Conduct multiple steel ball drop impact tests to simulate the impact loads that materials may bear during long-term use, analyze the accumulation of fatigue damage in materials, and predict the service life of materials in practical applications.

    3.2 Product Quality Inspection

    - Evaluation of Packaging Protection Performance: Place the packaged product under the test device and let the steel ball drop onto the packaging to simulate the impacts that the product may receive during transportation and handling. Check whether the packaging materials and structure can effectively protect the product, so as to optimize the packaging design and reduce the damage of products during the logistics process.

    - Drop Resistance Testing of Electronic Products: For electronic products such as mobile phones and tablets, fix them on the test bench and conduct drop impact tests with steel balls to evaluate the tolerance of the product's casing, screen, internal components, etc. when subjected to accidental drop impacts. This helps to improve the product's structural design and enhance the reliability and durability of the product.

    - Strength Inspection of Glass Products: For glass products such as glass containers and vehicle window glass, the steel ball drop test can detect their impact resistance, determine whether the products meet the quality standards and safety requirements, and ensure the safety of the products during normal use and possible accidental impacts.

3.3 Applications in the Construction and Engineering Field

    - Impact Resistance Testing of Roof Tiles: Drop the steel ball onto the roof tiles to simulate natural impact factors such as hailstones, evaluate the impact resistance of the roof tiles, and provide a reference for the selection of roof tiles and quality control, ensuring the waterproofing and structural safety of buildings under adverse weather conditions

    - Research on the Impact Resistance of Concrete: Through the steel ball drop test, study the mechanical response of concrete under impact loads, and provide data support for the application of concrete structures in engineering scenarios where they are subjected to impact, such as military protection projects and blast-resistant structures.

3.4 In the Field of Scientific Research and Teaching

    - Provide Data Support for Academic Research: In the research of disciplines such as materials science and mechanics, the steel ball drop test device can be used to obtain dynamic response data of materials under impact loads, such as stress, strain, and deformation patterns, providing experimental basis for the establishment and verification of material constitutive relations, impact dynamics theoretical models, etc.

    - Serve as a Teaching Demonstration Tool: During the teaching process of relevant majors, use the steel ball drop test device for on-site demonstrations, allowing students to intuitively observe the impact phenomenon, understand relevant knowledge such as material mechanical properties and impact dynamics, and improve students' interest in learning and their ability to understand theoretical knowledge.
